PilatesWhat is Pilates and who was Pilates?Joseph Humbertus Pilates was born in 1880 near Dusseldorf, Germany. He was a suffer of rickets, asthma and rheumatic fever, like others he was also inflicted with devastating chronic illnesses. Pilates became obsessed with the frailties of the body and was determined to overcome his own afflictions. According to Joseph Pilate physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness, and to achieve happiness you must have mastery of your body. Through the use of subtle exercise we can become aware of how individual compensations have made us lose our core stability, these are often why we suffer injury and/or back pain. To enable the body to function effectively and efficiently we need to exercise control and co-ordination. This can only be achieved by learning correct breathing, which assists the body when it is being physically challenged. Pilates can be combined with other fitness training of sports regimes to improve performance and complement workouts. Will Pilates benefit me?Absolutely! Pilates has benefits for everyone, any age and all standards of fitness. |
